The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property participates in the 58th meeting of the General Assembly of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, during the period from 24 September to 2 October 2018 with a delegation headed by Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Mohammed Al Swailem, the CEO of Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property and a number of officials of the Authority.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), established in 1967, is the global forum for services, policy, cooperation and information in the field of intellectual property, also it is one of the United Nations agencies, with a membership of 191 Member States, which plays a leading role in establishing an effective and balanced international system of intellectual property, encouraging innovation and creativity for Member States.
These meetings discuss a number of important intellectual property issues in Member States. The decisions taken by the delegations of Member States during the WIPO Assemblies contribute to supporting the global intellectual property framework, the future of innovation and the role of WIPO in promoting economic, social and cultural development in all countries.
It is worth mentioning that Saudi Arabia joined as a member of the WIPO Organization in 1402H (1982). Where the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property is participating for the first time as a high-level delegation in the meetings of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) which reflects positively on the various activities of the Authority.
