Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property Meets With Lawyers to Define Its Roles

The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, in cooperation with the Saudi Bar Association, organized a meeting to discuss the role of the Authority and its current and future activities to protect intellectual property in the Kingdom.
This step is intended to enhance partnership and cooperation between the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property and lawyers in the Kingdom. The meeting witnessed the presentation of a visual presentation on the historical background of the Kingdom in the field of intellectual property starting from the issuance of the system of distinguishing marks in 1358 AH and then its accession to the International Intellectual Property Organization in 1402H through the issuance of a number of related regulations such as the copyright system and patents and trademarks, To the decision of the Council of Ministers to establish the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property and launch its strategy in conjunction with the vision of the Kingdom 2030.

The meeting also discussed the intellectual property fields, including patents, industrial designs, trademarks, copyright, neighboring rights and plant varieties, as well as the future directions of the Authority according to a specific time frame, the most important of which is the formation of an international advisory board and cooperation with international offices and organizations.

The meeting concluded with a discussion between lawyers and officials of the Authority, which focused on the horizons and areas of cooperation between the two sides and their aspirations for the role of the Authority in protecting and enforcing the fields of intellectual property, raising awareness and education of intellectual property and listening to public and private sector perspectives in its activities.
