Design refers to the decorative or aesthetic aspect of a product, which is not for functional or technical purposes. It can be three-dimensional (e.g., product shape) or two-dimensional (e.g., patterns, lines, colors), including textile designs.

A design protection document grants the owner exclusive rights to use, license, or sell the design and prohibits copying or imitation without permission. Registering a product's shape as a design protects its external appearance, boosting its commercial value and marketability.

Exploitation of the design for commercial purposes must not violate Islamic law, harm living beings, or damage the environment. The design must also avoid including trademarks, flags, or official logos belonging to others.
